| Transitioning |
[Jul. 19th, 2008|12:59 pm] |
Hello again! I had posted a little while ago about my blue couch. I am just posting an update of my room because it has a bunch of random stuff thrown around it from moving in and my boyfriend says it looks like an opium den. So I thought I'd share :)
Can you figure any way to work it into the room? I had it behind the sofa, but it seems to darken everything and make the room look smaller. :/ I just stuffed it behind the side wall for now. Repainting it is an option...or craigslisting :P
I'm planning to stain my coffee table dark like the book shelves and maybe spray paint the legs purple/blue.
Open to curtain suggestions, though someone on my last post suggested plain white to keep it from looking too crazy and I think that's a pretty good plan. Though I am thinking of painting the walls powder blue and in that case I think powder blue window dressing would look nice. Where is the best place to buy good curtains? I want energy saver insulated curtains. :)
Thanks again guys! |

What can I do with celery? I don't like it plain much, or with peanut butter. I like it in mock chicken salad. |

| Another question! |
[Jul. 19th, 2008|07:19 am] |
I've been trying to come up with a way to rearrange my living room for a while to kind of open it up a little. Right now, my loveseat is kind of floating but it's blocking off the living room from the rest of the apartment. My question is, what are your opinions on putting furniture in front of sliding glass doors? We use our door pretty regularly so I had considered having a couch pulled out from the door to where it is still accesible, but you'd have to walk around the couch to get there. I hope this link to Jordans room planner works, it's a general idea of what the room would look like. http://jordans.icovia.com/default.aspx?projGuid=330D221F-0BC7-40CF-B9EE-86280648C1C1
Thanks for all the help everyone!! I really appreciate your opinions!! |

| | Jeopardy! | ] | My mom's started sobbing because I'm moving. To make matters worse she told me that she did, even though I loathe with every fiber of my being hearing that I'm breaking my poor mom's heart. And then tonight we're watching TV and she starts crying again, but she tries to stifle it like a champ. And it makes me want to stay at home.
Honestly I don't even want to move. The prospect of moving is so scary to me. I'm scared that I'm voluntarily making myself homeless and jobless. I'm scared that I'll run out of money. I'm scared that there'll be a terrorist attack. I'm scared that I won't make any new friends. I'm scared that the ones I do have don't really give a shit about me. (Why is it that "How I Met Your Mother" can make friendship seem so awesome, but in reality it's just pain and hurt feelings and putting up with shit longer than you have to?) I'm scared that I'll never succeed. I'm scared that Al Gore is right and that our planet is fucked. I'm scared that I won't have health insurance. I'm scared that my retinas will detach and I'll be blind. I'm scared of STDs and heartbreak and lightning and plane crashes and certain insects. I'm scared that I'll end up alone in life. I'm scared of basically everything right now and I don't want to leave my parent's house as a result. It's safe and warm here and here I know I am loved. I don't love my job right now, but I don't exactly hate it. If I committed to it to make it a career I could very easily move up the food chain with my skills and experience. I could get a nice little condo inside the Loop and have a pretty decent set-up. But I know that I have to at least try and do something else, especially while I'm 23 and it doesn't seem as foolish for me to try something else. I'm scared I'm going about all of this all wrong, but I don't really see how else I could about this. I'm so sick of having to explain to people about this whole plan and why the lack of job/house/car/money/plan is what needs to be done right now.
I see a lot of futures being mapped out right now and I have no fucking idea what mine is and I'm pissed that I just thought of that Natasha Betingfield song "Unwritten," which is so cliche. As if my whole plan isn't so cliche. Trying to make it in the big city?!? What bullshit. I should just move to Nebraska or something.
And it's not like I have a lot of time before I have forced myself to move. I'm buying a plane ticket really soon and I'm going to my grandma's house in less than a month. I have no idea what to or how to pack. That really concerns me - that I will be able to take absolutely nothing with me except clothing. I think I can pack well and I really hope I can get at least a couple non-wardrobe things with me - a few books and maybe one or two knick-knacks that remind me of home. I mean shoes alone are going to take up so much space and yeah I can leave some pairs behind and I definitely plan on doing so, but I will need at least 4 pairs AT THE VERY LEAST (brown, black, running, miscellaneous).
Gosh Mom, why'd you have to be so emo tonight? |

[Jul. 18th, 2008|10:06 pm] |
So the boy and I are moving into our first "grown up" apartment and I am so excited! It's a garden level, but a good size and with normal-height ceilings. Still, light is an issue.
So my first question is what is a good color to paint the living room to make it seem nice and bright? Not white or tan or beige please, we are looking for something interesting! Also, other than hanging tons of mirrors on the walls, how do I maximize what natural light we have? Third, what is the best way to insure the whole apartment is nice and bright even when we don't have sunlight? I mean other than lamps on every table..
My other question has to do with the bedroom. I am going to paint the whole room a medium chocolate color (not super dark, but not super light either). The wall behind the bed will have a design in a pink color, probably something like salmon. I was thinking of stealing this design: ( vines! ) Anyway, what should I do about bedding and curtains? I think brown bedding and curtains would be too much, but I don't want to use pink because...well...there is a man living there too. I want to avoid being too girly. Any ideas?
Thanks :-) |

| | Disgust - a world of no beauty | ] | Nettles are all over the place this time of year. So had to try to make this, well worth a try as nettles even if your in the city center should be growing somewhere nearby. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinging_nettle
1 bag of freshly young nettle leaves 1 large onion, diced 1 clove garlic 3 potatoes, diced 1 vegetable stock cube 4 (or to taste) desert spoons of plain soy yogurt A dash of olive oil
Pop the onion, garlic and potatoes in a large saucepan. Fry them for about 4 minutes in olive oil . While that's doing wash nettle leaves well and add them. Then stock cube. Boil for about 15 minutes until the potatoes are cooked. Then add your soy yogurt and liquidise. The business, the kids loved it too. ( nettles ) |

I'm doing well. I graduated from UT Austin. Dec '07!!! I'm working at the YMCA as an aquatics coordinator. It is a lot more responsibility then lifeguarding or being a swim instructor ever was. I love it! The end of this month I am moving into a house with friends (hopefully - we're trying to get approved). Jim and I are doing great. I love him, I love his family and I love the life we are building together. All in all everything is great.

| Bright Blue Crushed Velvet Sofa |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|09:14 am] |
I am moving into my new apartment and rabidly hunting craigslist and the internet for new furnishings and decorations. I found this sofa and had to buy it. I'm a sucker for weird/crazy/bright things...but now that I own it, I don't really know how to continue in my living room decorating. I have a black TV stand and bookshelves. I am trying to find a color scheme that works with the blue and black but won't make the place look too dark. I really love damask scrolling and funky rugs, but I don't want my living room to turn into something from Austin Powers or start looking like a brothel either.

I also have this chair (yes it's orange crushed velvet) currently in the living room. Do you think they can work together, or should I move it to the bedroom?
Please help! |

my boyfriend, best friend and i live in a cute little rental house. i've been in the process of totally redecorating everything (we've been here about a year, but i'm just now really feeling like we're moved in, if that makes sense). the bedroom that my boyfriend and i share was kind of the last room for me to redo, i just never put as much effort into it because i really only sleep there.
( but, finally, the time came for me to fix it up! ) |

| Looking for faux flowers |
[Jul. 17th, 2008|12:07 am] |
I'm trying to find some really nice looking faux "blossom branches". I don't know if there's a specific name for them, sorry =[
To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I bought this at Pier 1 last summer:

They are plastic cherry blossom branches. I really like them because I had been searching for them for ages when I randomly saw them at Pier 1. The only problem is that I wish they were more convincing. I threw in some actual tree branches but the look is still lacking to me.
Ideally, something like these would be perfect:

But I'm not holding my breath that I could ever find any that authentic looking.
I've tried searching online, but the ones I found at Pier 1 look way better than anything I've managed to find while searching.
Does anyone have any suggestions? |
